I had an unusually busy weekend! On Thursday my husband J and I went to a dinner for Japanese immigrants and people learning Japanese. I met a woman who had just moved to the USA a few weeks ago and barely spoke English. I tried to use my clumsy Japanese, because I remember what it felt like to be silent while others would talk and laugh in a foreign language. I haven't studied much since living there, but I have to keep it up or else I'll forget everything.
On Saturday we went to a wedding in the next state over. I didn't know the couple (they were J's friends), but I was moved. It's like experiencing our wedding all over again. I also got to spend 6 hours in a car with J's high school friends, which was surprisingly fun and not annoying.
On Sunday we drove back and went straight to an opera. Some friends had gotten us tickets to an excellent performance of Verdi's Aida. Being a big ol' music nerd, I had a wonderful time, but J didn't like it because the plot was so drawn-out, and each time a character had a feeling, they sang about it for 5 or 10 minutes. Afterwards we were both so tired of acting sophisticated that we went home and ate ice cream while watching Ghostbusters. The end.
Also - last week I finished drawing Varya! Eeeeee. [link]
